New Look, New Stuff

Yippee! Our website has been updated again. We are up to date with the latest newsletter. Also, there is a new forum available since the old one had been archived due to non-use. Please use it and let Jacquie know how you feel about it. She'd really like to know. She also changed the colors a little on the website just to refresh it. She hopes you'll enjoy it!

Abuse of Website Blog

We have had a lot of abuse of our blog comment section. I've edited out as much of the inappropriate redirection and advertisement as I can find at the moment and will continue to watch for it. I've hidden the comment section because it was no longer accurate and a part of what made the site attractive to the abusers. They could post in our comment section and advertise everything they chose. No more. I'm sorry that the legitimate comment posters will not get the recognition they deserve. This is an unpleasant, but necessary action to keep our site what it is meant to be as a promotion for Morning Star Center for Spiritual Living and the true needs of it's community.

Sunday Service Cancellation

Pennies for Peace

As most of our members are aware, our Morning Star Center Community is collecting pennies for Greg Mortenson, author of Three Cups of Tea, and Stones Into Schools. The pennies will go to build schools for girls in Afghanistan and Pakistan. Mortenson will give a public lecture at OU's Lloyd Noble Center on April 22, 2010 at 10:00am-11:30am. Our pennies will be presented to Greg Mortenson at a different time and location than the lecture. Otherwise free tickets are available through www.eventbrite.com/event/448141403. Although attendence is free, you must have a reservation to attend. You can reserve 1-4 seats.

Newsletters and Calendar updates

My sincerest apologies for not getting more done on the website in the last few months. The current information i.e. Newsletter and Calendar, is available once again and there is now a Children's Calendar page. We also have an Awareness Circle page for a new program we are sponsoring that is facilitated by Gina McCook. Be prepared for another exciting new program by Gina McCook in March. It's almost here! That's right! The drawing for "Tanzie" is coming up on October 24! We are currently less than $100.00 from our set goal. This gorgeous painting by B.J. Knight was inspired by the Tanzanian Well Project held by Morning Star a couple of years ago. You can buy the tickets on either of the next 2 Sundays before or after the 10:00am-11:00am services.

Sunday Talks Online

The board has decided that if our speakers agree, we will upload their talks for our members who are unable to attend for personal reasons. You can access the talks through the former speakers link that appears in the green bar menu when you are on the Newsletter/Calendar page. If the speaker has agreed for their talk to be available, you can just click on their name and the talk will just play. Enjoy!

In my talk this morning, I made the error of giving the website of the Sophians as www.sophia.org. The actual website is www.sophian.org. I don't have to type in the whole address to get there so I often forget the "n" is at the end. My apologies for any confusion this may cause.

Media Fair/Pot Luck Lunch

Wow! It's already almost here!!! Food for both the body and the soul coming up on Sunday April 26, following the services. We recommend sorting through your spiritual books, dvds and vhs tapes to swap with other members and/or donate to the Wisdom Collection on this day. Then, cook up your favorite pot luck dish and be ready for some fun socializing. See ya there!

Spiritual Cinema

Due to unforeseen circumstances, it is necessary to announce a one week delay on the Spiritual Cinema which is normally held on the first Friday of the month. Instead of April 3, the Cinema will be held on April 10. The cinema, "Across the Universe" will be shown at Therapy in Motion. About the movie on Amazon.com MRQE Reviews. Grab a blanket, a chair (although there are some provided they are limited) and join us. It is a delightful experience to view the movie and discuss it later! Thank you again Cindy for allowing us to use the facilities!

A brief note. Helen Duchon's son Peter in California passed away unexpectedly on Monday, March 23. Helen and Claude will fly out to California on Thursday, March 26. Please keep them in your prayers.

The Board has requested a trial run presence on Facebook to see if that would assist our members any in receving notifications, etc. of events and other situations (including personal, like a house burning down or someone's health condition needing prayers, etc.). The beauty is that each person who joins the group can be instantly notified when something comes up, like bad weather closing us down for a Sunday, special prayer requests, deadlines coming up, etc.

We also have 3 "discussions" ready to run at the moment, one of which is prayer requests. The one topic that has posts/opinions right now is the one for discussing announcements and whether or not people want to allow them at the end before we sing "Peace on Earth".

Right now the group is closed. Don't let that keep you from requesting to get into the group to have your say. It's only closed because this is a trial run. I'll add you when you request to get in. I've had a ball playing with Facebook and finding out what it's about. If you don't have a page you may find it fun yourself. If not, we are working on ways to build our communications and connections with our members. If you have recommendations, contact any of the board members. We'll be glad to work with any ideas.

2012 and the Mayans

We have a great program coming up this next Sunday. First Gary Cone speaks on Essene prophesies and in the afternoon ties things together with a marvelous workshop. Please join us for services at 10am and then attend the 2012 and the Mayan Calendar Workshopat Therapy in Motion from 1pm-4pm. The cost for the workshop is $20.00. Judith Evans' Love Story

Dear Morning Star Friends & Family,
Sunday, Feb. 15, 2009, long-time friend Judith Evans shared her story at Morning Star Spiritual Center; her story of love with her soul mate, Rod Evans. She and Rod had many special customs and rituals while married. Shortly after Rod passed from this life on Valentines Day due to a brain tumor, he seemed to communicate with Judith through those rituals. It was an emotional and very inspiring talk.
Thank you for sharing, Judith! Can't wait for your book!
